Privacy and your data

TransOne collects none of your data. Your text is sent only to the engine you select, and never passes through a server of ours.

The short version

• No account.
• No servers of ours.
• No analytics.
• No crash reporting.
• No advertising.
• No tracking.

The developer never receives your text, your images, your keys or anything about how you use the app.

Where your text goes

When you translate, your text goes straight from your Mac to the engine you chose. There is no relay of ours in the middle.

Each engine is run by its own company, with its own privacy policy and its own pricing. TransOne cannot speak for them, so read the policy of the engine you pick before you send it anything sensitive.

If you would rather nothing left your Mac at all, choose an engine that runs locally: System (On-Device), Ollama or LM Studio. With those, your text is translated on your own machine and never goes over the network. See Local and offline models.

Your API keys

An API key is the password a cloud engine gives you so it can bill your own account. TransOne stores every key in the macOS Keychain, the encrypted store built into macOS, never in a plain settings file. A key is only ever sent to the one service it belongs to, and never to us.

What is stored on your Mac

TransOne keeps your settings, your history, your favorites and its logs on your Mac, inside the app's sandbox container (see The sandbox below). None of it is uploaded.

You can clear these from Settings ▸ Data. See History and favorites and Backup, reset and keys.

Screenshots

When you use a screenshot feature, TransOne captures the region you drew, recognizes the text in it, and then discards the image. The picture is never saved and never leaves your Mac.

Permissions

TransOne asks for at most two macOS permissions, and only the first time a feature needs one:

• Accessibility, so it can read the text you have selected in another app.
• Screen Recording, so it can read the pixels in the region you capture for a screenshot.

Neither is used for anything else. Full detail, and the features that need no permission at all, are on the Permissions page.

Wordbook sync

Wordbook sync is off by default. When you turn it on, it sends only the words you look up, only to your own account, and only after you enter your own token. Nothing is sent anywhere until you do that.

Statistics

Statistics is on by default. It records which engine you chose for each translation and stays entirely on your Mac. Nothing is ever uploaded. You can turn it off, which also clears everything it has collected.

Purchases

Buying TransOne is handled entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. TransOne never sees your payment details.

The sandbox

An App Sandbox is a macOS feature that walls an app off from the rest of your system and your files, so it can only touch its own small area unless you grant it more. TransOne is always sandboxed, as the Mac App Store requires.
