Statistics

When you run several translation engines at once, they each give you a translation and you pick the one you like. TransOne notices which one you chose, and over time it ranks your engines by how often you pick them.

This answers a practical question: if some of your engines cost money, which one is actually earning its keep? The engine you keep choosing is the one worth paying for. The rest you can turn off.

What counts as a choice

TransOne only counts a translation when there was a real choice to make. A session counts only if at least two engines returned a result. If only one engine answered, there was nothing to compare, so it does not count.

It also ignores things that are not you picking a translation:

  • Copying the source text does not count.
  • Copying an entry from your History or Favorites does not count.

The Statistics page

Open Preferences from the menu bar icon and go to Settings ▸ Statistics.

  • Collect statistics: a toggle, on by default. This is what records your choices.
  • Time Range: Last 7 Days, Last 30 Days or All Time.
  • Sort: order the ranking by Win Rate or Times Selected.
  • A bar chart of each engine's win rate, so you can see the leaders at a glance.
  • A ranking list: for each engine, how often it was chosen out of how often it appeared.

An engine that has appeared fewer than 5 times is dimmed and marked as having too few samples, because a couple of picks is not enough to judge it fairly. Keep using it and it will fill in.

Turn it off or clear it

  • Clear Statistics… wipes the collected data but keeps recording going forward.
  • Turning Collect statistics off deletes everything collected so far as well, not just future data, so TransOne asks you to confirm first.

WARNING

Restore Services to Defaults also clears your statistics, along with resetting your engines. If you want to keep the data, note it down first.

Privacy

All of this stays on your Mac. Nothing about which engines you use, or what you translate, is ever uploaded. See Privacy and your data.
